Many of you have heard so much about vitamin D, but you may think it’s something only for adults to consider.  More research is coming out showing that it plays a critical role in our health from our youth.

Two new studies shed some light on the importance of maintaining normal levels of vitamin D.  In one study from Brazil, one hundred and sixty teenagers had their vitamin D levels measured and compared to them to health parameters such as BMI and cholesterol.  They found that those who were overweight, insulin resistant, had high blood pressure and cholesterol were significantly lower in vitamin D.

In another study from Europe, over 1,000 adolescents had their vitamin D levels compared to their physical fitness.  They found that BMI, oxygen capacity and upper body strength was associated with vitamin D levels.
