FAT
PHOBIC?
If you knew that 40% of calories came from fat in your diet, would you be alarmed? Well, you shouldn’t
be IF those fats are coming predominantly from healthy Omega 3 and Omega 9 oils. Fat is not a bad guy.
If you go out to eat a meal of burgers and fries, calories fall between 1500-2000…of
these, over 50% of calories are from animal fat – ugh! Now if you eat out and order trout, rice pilaf,
and mixed vegetables (and ask for the veggies to be cooked with virgin olive oil), then this meal also has quite a bit of
fat (restaurants use fat sources liberally, whether butter or oil). The good news is that this fat is from healthy oils: trout
abundant in Omega 3, olive oil abundant in Omega 9.
What do these fats offer?
Omega 3:
*Boost immune function
*Improve cholesterol/triglyceride
levels
*Decrease inflammation
*Improve moods
Omega 9:
*Also improves cholesterol levels,
lowers LDL
*Protective against cancer
So, don’t forget the fat!
