The Aging Eye

As we age, we expect that our skin will wrinkle, hair gray and mobility decrease.  Of course we also are trying to delay and reduce these effects too.

Many people are worried about their visual health, particularly age-related macular degeneration.  We know that carotenoids like lutein and zeaxanthin are found in our macula and scientists believe they can help protect the eye.

A study conducted over 1 year on adults with age-related macular degeneration was done.  Subjects received either lutein, zeaxanthin plus omega-3’s or placebo.

Those receiving the lutein and zeaxanthin had improvements in optical density of the macular pigment.
